[Public Release] Kalyskah 0.13.5

Hello everyone, Corintio here!

Last week the patron Sati Starr made us aware that during dialogues and cutscenes, if the player pressed the spacebar, Kalyskah would slide down the ground, and also that you could activate and deactivate the blood buff during dialogues!

This Blood Buff was a bigger problem if you had active while defeating the boss, then Kalyskah would be stuck with it turned on and there would be nothing you could do to stop her from using all of your blood points. So we fixed it this weekend, among with a few other things, and decided that we have been putting a lot of hard work on those dialogues and cutscenes to leave them buggy as they were on the public demo until we make another public release.

So today we are doing something we never did before: A new public release while also keeping exclusive content to our patrons!

I don't want to confuse anyone so instead of just linking to the last changelog and saying what is and what is not on the public patch, I'll just list everything ever since version 0.13.4c and then tell what's on the patron update:

Changelog Version 0.13.5

Fixes

  • Merishya’s tail has physics again.
  • Merishya will now stay at Kelhold’s balcony, as intended.
  • Saving and loading items on chests should be more reliable (but some chests at the dungeon doesn’t seen to be saving items and I couldn’t figure out why yet)
  • Fixed doorway on the treehouse
  • Some backend fixes on the way we deal with cutscene triggers
  • Fixed the shade provided by several trees so you can take cover from the harmful sunlight when Kalyskah's blood points are low.
  • Fixed dungeon cupboard collisions so you can now take the pet collar on it.
  • Fixed player being able to jump, equip weapons and activate the blood buff during cutscenes and dialogues.
  • Fixes on Herioom questline when Kaly is being aggressive: -She'll no longer have a weird rotation while the cutscene between her and Travert plays. -She'll also have a burst of hysterical laughter during that scene. -Lipsync added to Boris
  • Fixed boss throwing Attacks (Kalyskah will no longer be sent to space)
  • Improved Kalyskah rotation when she gets hit (She will spin less than before)
  • Fixed player being unable to leave dialogue with Ilya Bouchard
  • Fixed NPCs not detaching properly to their working stations before dialogues (It was happening with Ilya)

Enhancements

  • There’s a special blue\grey cape that the player can get on the new placeholder dungeon. On the next patches we’ll make it a different item, so now is the best time to grab it!
  • When you talk with the guards at Milhaven’s entrance, they will find wearing the slave collar more severe than being half-naked. Before this patch, they would react to Kalyskah lacking clothes even when she was wearing a pet collar. (Thanks Sati Starr to letting us know about this detail)
  • Made the first cutscene of the open-world skippable
  • Improved textures on male civilian clothes (like the one Harry and Averion use)

  • Slightly improved the way NPCs rotate during combat.

Changelog Version 0.14.1 (Currently Vampire+ Patron Tier)

Everything listed above for the public + Kalyskah can bring back the Couple’s supplies at the inn (Or give up after talking with the bandits and seeing that they are selling the items). So, for now, this part of the quest is available only to our patrons.

Known issue:

  • The player can still walk into Michael's dialogue while in mist-form. We would have fixed this one on this patch but we only noticed it happening while making the final tests. Since it's a very specific one, we might wait a day or two to see if more bugs appear before we update the game again.

Will you make it for Windows 8 also ?
Earlier versions worked for Windows 8 , now you are making it only for Windows 10 .

We are using the latest version of Unreal Engine 4, so something they did might be what is limiting the compatibility with windows 8

I know there is a difference in APIs from Windows 8 to Windows 10 that is what makes a game to work from system to system and for that to happen it implies coding with the different APIs and you just can't have some Windows 10 dll on Windows 8 , if the coding done uses the different ddl that you just can't have on Windows 8 then the game does not work anymore on Windows 8 and it will just Work for Windows 10 .
It needs coding also for Windows 8.

Earlier versions had Win 8 support, the laters do not have Win 8 support anymore .

Neat.
was just linked this game, what powers do you plan on being available, and would any of them show up in cutscenes? i.e Vampires don't need to breathe, and i saw a post mentioning swimming, and many vampires have powerful regeneration abilities, so having those be mentioned in cutscenes, or utilized outright, might be interesting.

  1. Vampires do not have to breath: Kalyskah does not get tired from running and she also doesn't need to catch her breath while swimming.
  2. Healing: You can toggle the "blood buff" by pressing out. This will consume your blood points (the bar at the bottom) while it's active, but when you have it on, Kalyskah will head her health (the bubble at the left side of the screen.
  3. Powers in cutscenes: Kalyskah is able to turn herself into a dark mist and you can see she doing that on cutscenes. She also has enhanced strength and she can take people's hearts with her bare hands!
  4. Other Powers the game already have: Kalyskah can use some sort of telekinesis to push and pull enemies (press or hold Q to do it) and she can also summon bloodhounds after you complete the dungeon level.

There are other powers we have planned, lot's of blood magic going on!
We read A LOT of vampire novels and we are putting an extra effort to make Kalyskah feel like she is a classic vampire. She can't get inside houses uninvited, she takes damage from the sunlight if she's not properly fed. If she is fed, her eyes are blue (or the colour the player chooses) but when she's thirty, her eyes turn red and her skin turns paler. We'll also make that she will only be able to cross running water after a specific quest.

So well, if you know about vampires, I think you'll appreciate the game as it developes!

Neat!

1. do her Enemies need to breathe? because i kinda like the idea of her using that to her advantage, i.e dragging foes down, or sabotaging diving gear.

2.story wise, with enough blood, does the healing have limits? i.e limbs? I'm imagining her pulling the Deliberate Injury Gambit Trope in order to get somewhere, or to beat a boss that lacks that ability.

3.Nice,  i'm guessing the hearts can be drained for blood?

4. can you pet the bloodhounds?

"She can't get inside houses uninvited,"

What happens if someone rescinds the invitation while she's inside the house? does she pull a True Blood and slide out? or does she just get damaged for as long as she's inside?

1 - They do, but I don't think they go into the water on the current version, and neither have anything programmed to make them take damage there.
2 - Storywise, she can heal anything. Kalyskah is immortal and even if you cut off her head, she'll just reform somewhere like on the last coffin she rested on. We just don't have dismemberment as a mechanic on the game xD
3 - Yep, on the cutscenes that she takes people hearts she actually recovers blood points by drinking from them:

4 - You can't pet them, but that's actually a good idea!

Once someone invites her in, they can't uninvite her. It's too late, if she is there to harm them they are already lost!

On the game, she bounces out of the doors that she's not invited in, but if you want to know about the lore, getting inside houses without an invitation would make she bleed out and feel excruciating pain, like on this movie:
