[News] Unreal 5 migration progress + Devlog!

Hello everyone, Corintio here!

In the past few months, we've been working on the background to try and update our game from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. This task has been challenging and we faced roadblocks from crashes while compiling the game's code, crashes on compiling plugins and the latest: crashes while opening the engine. The post today is quite technical, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask in the comments and I can explain.

We managed to solve these crashes. Now we are in the process of re-assing some of the code that had to be removed since while moving from one engine to the other, a few functions we often used became deprecated, and we are finding alternatives to re-add these functionalities with the new methods Unreal 5 offers.

We don't have an exact ETA of when it will be done, but there's a chance it should happen in the next month. This is exciting because Unreal 5 offers not only amazing graphics but also several new tools for us to speed up the level design process.

Once the migration is complete, the two new challenges we'll face will be:

  • Optimizing the game so people who can run the current version with the recommended settings can also run it in Unreal 5. That means that we'll also standardize the shaders that the game has, something we couldn't do before because we knew we would be updating the engine version soon;
  • Debugging and ensuring that every function, from walking around the world to playing in the gallery, is still working as intended.

While our technical team will be working on that, on the art side, we're still working on the new clothes. The retopology of Ilreth's dress is fully done and soon we'll begin to add textures:

We've been reworking the "Straight Fuzzy" hairstyle, which is the hair that will be used by the new character Nemesis:

And our writing team is almost done with writing the 6 events between Kalyskah, Michael and Ilreth, that you will be able to discover in-game. The script has 14 pages so far!

Thank you very much for your support over the years and if you haven't already, please add our game to your wishlist and join our discord community!

On my device, if it's not lower framerate than StarField, it's a success.
